Philosophy 120

16th September 2009

omg I'm in Philosophy right now and it's so boring. I'm learning about different types of arguments (Ad Misericordiam, Ad Ignorantiam, omgahdenglishpls) and fallacies. I thought this course would be at least a little bit interesting! It's so technical. That's the only reason I'm still hanging on to this course and not dropping it - because it's easy. There are no assignments, attendance/participation doesn't matter, there are only quizzes & a final year exam. I hope I can use it to help pull up my GPA! (: I'm writing this post in my notebook (my wonderfully colourful notebook from Xue Ting!) now because my laptop only has 16% battery life left - that's 19 mins (yah. I know. Why so short!! >:( ) - and there is an hour left to this lecture. Great!

...ok, we just learnt the difference beween using 'if', 'only if' and 'if and only if'. Sigh. I don't get why we have to read the book and come listen to the prof talk about the same thing the book does. They should just print us notes in that case.

Ok ok enough Philosophy 120 rant!

So HELLO FRIENDS BACK IN SINGAPORE/other parts of the world!
I MISS YOU ALL :/
Here's an update about my life in Vancouver so far! :)
I arrived here on August 13th with my mum. We went to shop for my dress the next day before picking my sister and Pat up from the airport! They flew over from Toronto just for my cousin's wedding. Yay! (: So happy to see them again! Ok my laptop just ran out of battery...

Propositional connectives )

20 more mins! Yay!

Propositional Variable )

So it was my cousin's wedding on August 15th. The afternoon ceremony was beautiful. It was held in the pavilion in a park.

Truth-functional Connective )

Oh yeah coffee is very good for lectures like this. This is what my table layout looks like right now, in the lecture theatre:

Whoa could this lecture go any slower...

So anyway, when the bride (my cousin) entered with her dad (my uncle), crying avalanche prevailed. Her dad was crying as he was walking her down the aisle and that contagious crying led to all the girl cousins (including me) tearing! My cousin's brother, who was one of the groomsmen standing up in front, was crying too. We're such an emotional family! I swear it runs in the genes.

Material Conditional )

The minister said "I'm so sorry we made your dad do this." hahaha.

Material Biconditional )

The wedding was lovely! And omg the dinner was in Vancouver's convention centre and the hall was enormous, plus one side was entirely glass windows so we had a spectacular view of the sea. Fantastic! There was an open bar and a dessert buffet, live band and acoustic singer on the porch. My cousin also rented a photobooth for the wedding dinner; those types that you use to take 4 x 4 passport-sized digital prints. It was so fun because everyone can keep going back to take pictures!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ok it's a new day now and once again I'm in Philosophy 120 lecture. Omg, he started the lecture at about 2 slides before my laptop battery died the last lecture. That's like 10 slides we covered last week. So anyway, for those of you who don't already know, I'm currently residing in a basement. Yes, I live underground. See, the landlady split her house into 3 as so:

So I'm living in the basement unit, which has 2 bedrooms and is pretty spacious! (: But since it's a basement, there is barely any natural light in the place, plus it gets pretty cold. It's really convenient though, once I exit the back gate, it's the supermarket! Haha. And I have 4 direct buses to school, which is a 15 min bus ride away. Rent is cheap too! I'm living with my brother (temporarily) and a family friend. :D

Vancouver is really lovely, I'm enjoying the weather right now. It's been pretty sunny and cool at the same time! I dread the period when it starts raining every day. Vancouver is well known for its rain, especially in winter! Brrr. I can really see why Vancouver was voted most beautiful/livable city in the world! It's Fall (they don't call it "autumn" here) now and it's the first fall season I'm experience ever! Leaves are starting to turn red bit by bit! Just like this book!

I signed up for UBC's annual longboat race (it's like dragonboat!) and just had a clinic for it the day before yesterday! It was fun! I like rowing. I wish my arms were stronger though. The actual race is next weekend - should be fun! (: Yesterday I went for the Aids Walk For Life at Stanley Park (some park near downtown) and it was such a perfect day for a walk in the park (: Got some merchandise at the fair and enjoyed a hotdog on the lawn! Oh yes! That's another thing I love about Vancouver! We can sit on the lawns because the grass is nice and dry! It's like we see on TV shows where the kids gather and hang out on the lawn (i.e. Skins, Greek, etc.)! Sweet. :D

I really miss Singapore though. I miss local food (especially Chai Tao Kway!)

Truth-table testing )

I miss home and all my friends and family. And Toffee! Junior! Caramel! I miss how everything's so convenient in Singapore, its efficient

txtbk )

public transport system, how everything closes really late. I miss nightlife! Suppers! Just being online with everyone else at night! People here sleep so early and wake up early! Ugh, so healthy. Perfect example: you know how clubs in Singapore close at 4 or 5 a.m.? Over here they close at midnight or 1 a.m. Hahaha. That's when clubs get crowded in Singapore. I haven't been to a club over here yet though, wonder if it's fun!

Another thing about here is that although people are a lot friendlier and more helpful, they won't warm up to you as quickly as people do in Singapore. Maybe it's their culture, or perhaps it's just the culture difference because everyone's from all over the world. I don't have many good friends just yet, hope it gets better soon! Today was a good day. Talked to some people in class (: And I'm becoming less shy to participate in class too!

Ok class just ended! I guess this marks the end of my post too, then! Til next time! (:

P.S. I just got back my Philosophy 120 quiz yesterday. I got 82%! :D

Here's the second sweet song (: I've really liked it for quite a while now and I believe more people should hear this!

(Click here to download this sweet song!)

Eric Nicholas - Song For My Future Wife

I spend my time
wondering where you are
right now
And you're in my dreams
I'm asleep but I still can smile
I see myself
twenty long years from now
in your arms
And I'll search the world
to find you I'll search near and far

Everywhere I go
I'll wonder
If you're in the room
Every woman I see
I wonder
If she is you

Do you believe that we could fall in love
at first sight
I'm sure when I find you
I'll find that look of love
in your eyes
Sometimes I wonder
if I passed you by somewhere
Or maybe I've known you
I've known you all my life
but I've been too scared

Everywhere I go
I'll wonder
If you're in the room
Every woman I see
I wonder
If she is you

And when I find you
I'm gonna love you
I'm gonna hold you
And be right by you
I'm gonna be there for you
And care for you
And I will be
I will be
there for you

I spend my time
wondering where you are
right now
And when I finally
find you I won't ever let you go

Everywhere I go
I'll wonder
If you're in the room
Every woman I see
I wonder
If she is you

AJ Rafael - I Just Want You

There's something I gotta say to you
But I'm so afraid of what you'll do
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

I'll just admit this to you now
That I'm stuck on you like glue somehow
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

Don't want to feel so cold inside
I want to feel the warmth that I feel with you, all the time
Surrounding me just like the wind
Cause your the one who makes me sing...

Help me find myself, like how I found you
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

I need you so we can live happily too
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

I just want youuu (X2)

I want to go out with you tonight,
A picnic with candlelight
I might just hold you tight

Tell me you wanna be my queen
If not, it's ok, a princess seems just my type
I promise I'll be there tonight

I wanna keep you warm in winter's white
And in the summer, walks on a beach sound nice

I need you now
To talk with on the phone for hours at a time
Baby, I just want you to be mine, all mine

Help me find myself, like how I found you
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

I need you so we can live happily too
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

I just want you...

I want to be your Valentine,
Your Christmas wish, your pick up line

I want to be the one who knows about your friends and foes,
And the TV shows you love

Look above the stars,
Spell out your name with an exclamation point
'Cause at the end of the day,
You're the one who makes me say...

Help me find myself, like how I found you
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
I need you so we can live happily too
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

I Just Want You (x4)

Hello! I realise I haven't blogged in actual writing for a long time!

I just did some recording of my own and it's so fun!! :D
I played You're So Damn Hot by OK Go! Did it in 5 different layers - Guitar, Bass (using my guitar haha), Lead vocals, Background vocals & random sound effects (like clapping and 'oh')

HAHA so fun!!! Now I wish I had a drumset so I could top it all off with percussion! Oh and I wish I had a nicer singing voice too! RARR.

Now I understand the enjoyment all those 1-man bands get from recording their own stuff! Haha. I should do this more often. Takes up so much time though! But still, I had fun jamming with myself today (:

I AM LEAVING IN 10 DAYS YOU KNOW? 10 DAYS. TEN DAYS. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG FREAKING OUT!!!!!!!

I'm really excited for school but I'm also really really sad to leave. You know, she bu de!! akdfhdsjfhlajdsfhsjdfhdsjfhads;fsd and I cried just now after reading Shu Wen's lj post about entering uni. All my friends are going to be starting their new school life elsewhere and we're all just going to lead such different lives. I'm sure we'll all make new friends, but right now I'm still at the point thinking 'how am I going to survive without having all my awesome friends around?'

HEY FRIENDS, I'M GOING TO MISS YOU ALL SO SO SO SO MUCH. <3 Please don't forget me ):
I'll do my best to stay in touch as often as I can, ok! And when I come back to visit during the holidays, we MUST meet up! (:
Please write to me while I'm away, email or snail mail. I'll give you my addresses.

I am going to miss my parents so much too. I'll miss staying at home, having someone to take care of me, to look out for me all the time. I'll miss having two eager dogs greeting me everytime I come home. I'll miss the small skinny cat that sneaks into my room all the time. I'll miss having home-cooked meals. I'll miss my spontaneous neighbours. I'll miss the convenience of having services & food near home that are open til late. I'll miss HOME.

I'M GOING TO MISS YOU, SINGAPORE COMMUNITY!

Heyhop! Ever since I've been back from Canada, I've been meeting up with friends almost every day! And that makes me a happy girl (:
Was just talking with my dad about living life the other day. He asked if it is better to live in a small town and enjoy the relaxed life, or if it's better to stay in a city with a hectic life. I said I prefer the city because I need things to do all the time. I like to be busy. I need to have a lot of friends around for me to call out at anytime. I added: "A small town full of friends is not enough for me!" :D

And that's what I've been, busy busy with lots of friends. So here's the post to document what I've been doing ever since I got back from Canada. It's one of those posts with not much substance but then it's so full of memories for me that it's fun to write about in short.

I landed back in Singapore on 7 June, just before midnight. So my days back in Singapore started on 8th June, a Monday!

Disclaimer: Very long post under that cut :D

If you've met me anytime between 8th and 29th June, your face is probably in here (:  )

Yay! I'm so happy & I still feel so loved :D Friends for life. I'm going to miss all of you when I go to Canada :/
Til then, we MUST meet up MORE OK!! Loves!

Don't you wake up yet
Give me some time to watch you asleep
Oh angel of mine
And I, I will be fine
As long as you're near me
Oh angel of mine

But tomorrow if a Golden Train came to take you away
Would you go or would you stay?
Tomorrow if a Golden Train came to take you away
Would you go or would you stay?

I pieced a puzzle together today (:

Side note:
I realised that I never fought that 'fight'. Instead, I stood by the side and  helped. Yet I consider myself a winner. So good on me!
I'm a sad winner. Sad weiner. But soon to be happy!

I say the tragedy is how you're gonna spend
The rest of your nights with the light on
So shine the light on all of your friends
When it all amounts to nothing in the end.

HAHA ok I'm sorry, I can't help it! I have to upload these 2 videos. Can't resist :D

I'm not a Kris Allen fan, BUT I really think this performance of his deserves mentioning. "Ain't No Sunshine", done his own way. I was blown away when I watched it! I think he had the best performance that night, the top 9, which btw, had the most sucky theme ever. Most popular downloads?

Good right!

and and here's Matt again! This was in the top 11. Singing Carrie Underwood's "So Small".

:D
Randy compared him to Justin Timberlake before! And Simon compares him to Michael Buble here. Wow!
And I couldn't be happier when Simon said that Matt outsang Danny Gokey. HAH! Danny Gokey needs to be more interesting. What a waste of a great voice.

Matt is cool (:

When it was down to Matt Giraud and Allison Iraheta, I covered half my face with clenched fists. I was hoping and hoping it'd be Allison in the bottom three, so that it'd put an end to my rapid heart pumping. (I do like Allison, but I like Matt more!!!) And I knew if Allison was in the bottom three, it would be Anoop who'd go and not her. So when Ryan Seacrest said "last week, the judges saved Matt but as far as America was concerned last week, they would've sent you home. This week, it was entirely up to the nation, Matt. And they have also decided......" -OMG EDGE OF SEAT MOMENT- "... to save you. You are safe."
I YELLED "YEAHHHH!!!", with cries of "Woohoo!" after that. heehee d:

I AM SO HAPPY MATT GIRAUD IS STILL IN THE RUNNING (: At least America's good for something. haha.
ADAM LAMBERT & MATT GIRAUD FTW :D

Adam's my favourite, and Matt comes in a close second! Except there's not so much hype about Adam during results shows because everybody's always sure he'll be safe (he's just TOO GOOD!). So there's more adrenaline rush when it comes to Matt. Makes it more fun! Wah I tell you ah, in the show that he got voted off - that was the MOST intense!!! First I was in SHOCK when LIL ROUNDS was NOT the bottom (OMGWTFBBQ!), then I was VERY SAD that Matt Giraud was bottom (OMGWTFBBQAGAINZ!). After that, I was so anxious hoping that the judges would save him!! And when they did, I was ecstatic and relieved! ~emotional rollercoaster, srsly.

I'm just glad Matt's still there! Adam goes without saying. YAYYYY these 2 are the reason I watch the show every week. :D

Oh yah oh yah I observed that almost every week, Matt & Adam's performances are always next to each other's. My theory is that Matt is the only one who can perform before/after Adam and still sound good, because his style is so different from Adam's. This has happened on 4 out of 7 shows already. Top 13, top 8, top 7, top 7 (again). Let's see how long this carries on (:

And I really enjoyed watching the group performance in the results show this week! I rewinded the recording and watched it 4 times. haha! It was fun watching them dance. ADAM can dance! Matt can dance too! But Adam gets all my attention. Niceeee.
PLUS I found out that Channel 5 cut out the Ford advertisement that the idols filmed! I watched it in an online recap and I was like "What!" I wonder how many things they've cut out from American Idol shows already. Pfft.

Ok this is such an American Idol fan post. hahaha. :D American Idol's awesome k!

MATT GIRAUD :D

ADAM LAMBERT :D

I just realised both these videos were from the same performance show, the top 8! And these 2 performances were the ONLY good ones that night. Oh yah and Allison too! (:

Oh and I downloaded Adam Lambert's tracks so if you want them, just ask! (:

Ahhhh I think I will be so sad when this season of American Idol ends. It's by far the best season ever, in terms of talent and competition.
Ok, I'm done with the American Idol swooning for this post. Going to go download more videos! heehee bye!

PS. if you didn't get my title, it's supposed to be "A damn awesome performance made brilliant!" hahaha.

American Idol Top 7

Aww Matt's so lucky. I want 6 people hugging me at once too! And yes, Adam Lambert has to be one of them.

CJC Bowling

  • Apr. 1st, 2009 at 1:15 PM

I feel so young and full of life again when I reread my blog posts on my blogspot.
Kinda makes me wonder why I stopped posting there.

And yesterday, when I read the entry I wrote after bowling Nationals last year, I almost cried!!!
I miss bowling so so much. And I forgot how passionately I wrote that entry already. When I read the entry, I felt like I was reliving the Nationals season. I was immersed in good days once again.

I miss that feeling of passion. Right now, it feels like there's not much on my plate for me to feel passionate about. I do love writing though. hmm.
But it's not the same!!
urgh

I want to be in bowling again ):

Yesterday I went back to school with yza and I saw the bowling exco! They were settling the admin work for the upcoming Nationals!
I'm so so jealous. haha.
Ok, I'm going to paste that entry I reread. Tribute to bowling.

Thursday, May 01, 2008

I'm very very proud of the CJC bowling team.

'A' Div Nationals was a real test for some, a new experience for many and a repeated challenge for others.
You see, Ten-pin Bowling is very special, it's an individual sport, yet it's very much a team effort as well. Not in the sense that one's score can pull the other's up, but more of in the mental aspect of it all. Not many (mostly only bowlers) know that bowling does require a fair amount of mental strength. Skill alone does not win you the game. All that moral support, cheering, talking, encouragement and motivation really showed how bonded and supportive we were of each other. I'm sure that if there was an award for team spirit, CJC would bag it any day.

We may not have had the most skilled bowlers, or the most experienced bowlers, but we came in this together and got through it together. (:
The whole team went down every single day, every single event. We watched one another and yelled in full support before a shot was taken, when there was a miss, a strike, a spare or even a smile.

In the mornings, we'd be greeted with "good morning!"s and "hello!"s when we walk into the foyer. Then we'd gather around and talk til the late bus finally arrives. On the bus journey to Orchid Country Club, some would be asleep, a group playing bridge, others chatting and the rest just making a lot of noise. Then we'd reach and gather for Uncle Denny's briefing followed by warm up for the event of the day.
Event begins and screams and shouts prevail.

After each event, we would spend a long time queuing for the shuttle bus and get annoyed at people who cut our queue. Crazy things happen and many pictures and videos are taken. Games such as pepsi-cola are played, "magic" tricks are shown off and imitations of bowling styles make everyone laugh.

When we finally manage to fill one entire shuttle bus, we'd go for lunch or dinner at North Point where we'd just while away time talking and talking and just being ourselves, until we'd finally leave for home.

At home, we'd meet online and start talking some more. Then we'd all play isketch and have a great laugh. Talk more and then chase each other to bed to conserve energy for the next morning. The cycle begins again.

This lasted for 6 days. The bowling team was ONE. It was a term that we wanted never to end. In this period of 6 days, we got tighter than ever and the team bonded so much. So lovely.

Our coach, Uncle Denny, was our form of guidance, with briefings and debriefs for each event, even though he was so tired. He was our encouragement as well, walking around and making sure we all were on form. He came up with methods to help us relax and often brought a smile to our faces.

Not forgetting our teacher-in-charge, Mr Mark Li, who was there with us throughout the entire span of Nationals. Arranging transport each day, making sure everybody would get there on time, caring for every bowler, ensuring that we were well-fed and energised, giving us motivation through ice-cream cakes :D and encouraging us while we were bowling.
"The grass is green and the sun is warm."
Thanks "father" Mark. (:

And I'd like to say that I'm very glad and honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead the bowling team, one that i'm proud to call my own.I hope I haven't let anybody down.

On a personal note, I did not do as well as I hoped to, yet I am very pleased at something indescribable. I think it was all worth it, for the amount of effort I put in and the experience that I got in return. What I got out of Nationals this year is a vast difference from what I got out of it last year. Perhaps because the role I played in the two years were different.

And before my last frame, I had to fight back my tears because I was just thinking about the whole experience and how this would be the last frame to end it all. But those weren't tears of sorrow, they were in fact tears of joy, passion and gratitude. I managed to hold my tears back in the end and went for my last throw. And I screwed it up! hahaha. Goes to show you need a clear mind when you're bowling. So now I have unfinished business to do, to spare that poison ivy that I left behind.

Special mention to a few people who really kept me going throughout:
Cbelle, thanks for your daily updates and support!
Brian, for being mentally strong so I could feel safe telling you my worries because it wouldn't break you.
Dawn, for being the BESTEST BEST BEST PARTNER IN THE WORLD!!!!! (:

On the whole, I think that the CJC bowlers did very well and all of you should be really proud of yourselves! (:
Thank you all for being such wonderful people and I thank you for being part of my excellent experience in CJC Bowling.

CJC IGNITE!
FLAME ON!

What is it about the airport that makes me feel so happy?
Maybe it's the feeling of getting ready to leave the country for a short trip, a holiday. Just forget all your sorrows and leave for a fun holiday.

I don't know.

Or maybe it was just the company that day. (:

Even though we didn't exactly leave the country, it still felt like a mini holiday. A nice day of walking around, doing nothing more than enjoying the company. Very very nice.

Hey you guys, I'd really like another trip to the airport soon! That day was fun (:

I really want to post some pictures from recent events but then I can't find my camera cable. :/
